Biography:

Jing was born to an artist family in Malaysia, she received her BFA in Interior Design from Academy of Art University, San Francisco, USA in 1995, and MS from University of Lincoln, Lincoln, UK in 2003. From 1996 to 1998, she was a visiting lecturer at International Modern Design Art College (IMDAC) of Yunnan University and IMDAC of Inner Mongolia Normal University. She was then appointed the vice president of IMDAC of Inner Mongolia Normal University. A few years back she started to go full time in painting as she realized that spending much time in lecturing and designing never gave her self satisfaction.

Jing received numerous awards local and international including Malaysia 11th National Furniture Design Competition (1999), Malaysia IFDC Award for Open Category (2003), Korea International Travel Souvenir Design Competition (2005), Italy Design Boom Social Awareness Award (2006), and finalist in Italy ARTINGENUA Prize (2008) and The Hunting Art Prize of Houston, Texas (2009). In 2010, she was one of the winners of Susquehanna International Art Competition and her artwork “Fishing Village” was featured as the lead image in one of the chapter of the book “River Art”" sponsored by West Shore Gallery and Sunbury Press. Her artworks were exhibited in several countries and had been collected by private collectors local and abroad.

Kemelut Zaman-Exhibition Jan 2012

02. Nov, 2011 ·Comments Off

The sculptures of Raja Shahriman have taken a new breath from his last works in Rhythm of the 21st Century. The dark serious pieces in rhythm have given way to modern contemporary and almost pop art sculptures.

The sculptures Raja Shahriman has created in Kemelut Zaman are not only refreshing to look at but are very appropriate in the context of our modern society. In exploring new forms, Raja Shahriman has cleverly transformed musical instruments, cultural and traditional objects into modern, interesting and aesthetic pieces of art that will remain relevant over time. The fine metal finish he has given the works makes the sculptures modern and elegant. Thus despite the few numbers, the sculptures in Kemelut Zaman not only affirm the skill and craftsmanship of Raja Shahriman, but also demonstrate his wittiness as a contemporary artist.

Rhythm of the 21st Century-Monologues of Raja Shahriman

10. Feb, 2011 ·Comments Off

Raja Shahriman 6th Solo exhibition-‘Rhythm of the 21st Century-Monologues of Raja Shahriman’, Petronas Gallery, KLCC, Kuala Lumpur. (29th Oct. 2009 to 24th Jan 2010)
Shahriman inspiration are from bullets and war torn pieces of metal. The sculptures are entirely hand-made and hand forged. The creation of the sculptures involved overcoming challenging technicalities and for Shahriman, he describes this series as the most difficult and challenging he has even done. The entire process presents a physical environment of backbreaking & grueling process. This new series is different from the use of scrap metal in his Gerak Tempur series and in the use of metal rods in his Nafas series. The method he uses now further enhanced his capability to create solid sculptures in an almost unlimited form, shape and size. His artworks range from majestic towering figurative pieces to the beautifully crafted abstracts in a dramatic display of form.

Nafas

02. Sep, 2010 ·Comments Off

Raja Shahriman 4th solo exhibition-2004
Nafas
- Maka sebab angin jugalah bergeraknya benda.
- Maka sebab angin jugalah bernafasnya manusia.
